Almost every label tries to come up with their best collection at the New York Fashion Week, but some of them truly outdid themselves this time. There were some crazy collections that kept the audience captivated throughout the show. We have cherry picked the seven most interesting collections that can also be credited for some of the most memorable moments of New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019. Let’s take a look:
Marc Jacob’s show left an impression on the audience for two main reasons. Firstly, the show started after a two hours delay amidst all the speculations of Jacob not presenting anything at all. Secondly, it was a collection that was truly worth the wait. The Models started walking the ramp in their candy colors outfit and pastel hair that looked like actual cotton candy. It was full of heavily ruffled dresses and strong-shouldered jackets that reminded of the glamorous 60s. Overall, a scrumptiously pretty collection we will be talking about for years to come.
Calvin Klein paid tribute to the 70’s classic thriller, and one of the best shark movies on this planet, with a “Jaws” themed collection. The mastermind behind the collection, designer Raf Simons, unveiled a crazy collection with Jaws t-shirts and trousers inspired by scuba suits. It is a collection perfect for anyone who loves the ocean of marine life for that matter. There are a lot of abstract prints inspired by ripples of water as they reflect the amalgam of colorful rocks and coral. There is hardly a collection to better represents the American pop culture.
It’s been a while since Texas made a headline at any fashion show. Hailing from the lone star state, Brandon Maxwell brought the much-deserved limelight to his home state with his Texas Tailgate collection at the New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019. Invitations sent out on cowboy boots and food served on pickup trucks weren’t the only memorable bits. The collection itself is an ode to Maxwell’s remarkable growth as a designer.Instead of old and repetitive formulas, he added a flair of modernism with hissexy, sleek, and sophisticated designs. Huge bags, boots, and hats added the unmistakably southern splendor. New York Fashion Week Spring 2019:
Rio Uribe keeps the Gypsy Sport spirit alive with a collection now hailed as a “love letter to Mother Nature.” With salvaged denim, intricate handcraft, and accessories made of recycled items, the collection stays true to the spirit if Gypsy Sport. In fact, 90 percent of the collection is made from recycled item. So, the message is clear – a peaceful and pollution free planet. We have yet to see a label that manages to maintain its street cred along with its couture status. New York Fashion Week Summer 2019:
What does it take to make someone sit in a cemetery on a rainy day, for almost an hour? It takes a collection as amazing as Rodarte’s! Rodarte added a whole level of mystery and magnificence to the New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019 with its Goth meets fantasy collection. The collection had some of the most gorgeous gowns we have seen this year. Ethereal accessories and brilliant make up made it a truly spine chilling show that kept the audiences captivated despite the continuous drizzle.
6. Coach 1941
Coach 1941’s collection at the New York Fashion Week blew everyone’s mind with a blast of nostalgia. It was the adventurous side of the 90s Hollywood meets the glamour of cinema’s golden age. There was a huge dinosaur looming over the ramp, which failed to take eyes off this wild and adventurous collection of dresses, coats, and jacket. It is what you get when Mad Max mates Disney. The show also marked the brand’s farewell to real fur in favor of faux fur. And since it was Coach 1941, bags and accessories were the real showstoppers there.
Last but not the least, what really stole the limelight at the New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019 was the crop of unconventionally anything-but-size-zero models who graced the ramp in various shows. RiRi’s X-fenty fashion show featured a diverse lineup of models of all color, ethnicity, and sizes. Chroma expanded on the idea by including models with disabilities and a breast cancer survivor flaunting her scars. Plus size models were big on various shows including ParabalGurung, ChristianSiriano, and Cushnie et Ochs to name a few.
With pregnant models taking the stage and sizes that have never made it to the ramp before, New York Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2019 was surely a show that would go down in the history of fashion world. The colors, the prints, and the trends showcased were just as diverse and inclusive as the models and designers. It was indeed one of the most successful fashion weeks New York has ever hosted, and it definitely sets the bar for shows to come.
